Unity Youth

Are you bringing children?

When you bring your children to the 11 am service,

the greeter will meet and direct you downstairs where children are

signed into their special Sunday Soul Celebration.

At the conclusion of the service, the children are brought into the Sanctuary

for a brief time to be with us, sing the Peace Song and interact with us.

They will go back downstairs so you can sign them out.

Alternately, your children are welcome to stay with you during the service.

Youth

Preschool to 5th Grade Program
Our Children's Program is available for children, preschool to 5th grade, at 11AM each Sunday.

Youth classrooms are located on the lower level of our church.
Children attending at 11AM participate in one of four classrooms based  on their age or grade.

Preschool (3 to 5 years): Through stories and play our preschoolers are invited to explore spiritual principles
and how to apply them to everyday life.
Kindergarten / 1st Grade (Elementary 1)*
2nd / 3rd Grade (Elementary 2)*
4th / 5th Grade (Elementary 3)*

*Elementary  1, 2 & 3:  In these classes we encourage each child to journey
ithin to discover their own personal spirituality through discussion,
sharing personal experiences, storytelling and creative expression.

Our  morning experience begins with our "Celebration Circle." Our time  includes personal sharing,
Love Offering, music, prayer and meditation. Next, our children enjoy arts & crafts based on the lesson of the day.
Then children move to their individual rooms to go deeper into the day's lesson at an age appropriate level.
In addition to the above, they  exchange a "heart check-in" with their friends
and in greater depth with their age group in the classroom.

Our Youth Education  teachers and staff members provide a safe, loving, nurturing environment
for your children to continue their spiritual growth in life. A  well-founded spiritual curriculum is provided to reach each child's age
and level of understanding. It is designed to meet the spiritual,  psychological, emotional, physical and social needs at every age level.
Here they can be comfortable with themselves, their peers, and their  teachers.

Youth of Unity (YOU) serves teens, 9th to 12th grade,
and meets on our lower level in the YOU room each Sunday at 11:00AM.
We love visitors and new members – you are welcome here!

Our  teen ministry strives to be a place of unconditional love and  acceptance.
Our teens lead the group in partnership with our adult  sponsors, giving everyone the opportunity to explore their spirituality,
build connections, and develop leadership skills. We offer Movie  Afternoons, Lock-ins, and Regional Retreats along with many
opportunities to participate in service projects, fundraisers, and other  fun activities.

YOU's Three-Fold Focus
Spiritual
A  spiritual lesson is offered weekly to assist the YOUers in the
understanding of spiritual laws and practical application in their daily  life. Time is spent in prayer,
meditation and connecting with the  Christ within.
Weekend retreats and rallies are offered to allow more
intensive exploration of their divine nature.

Service
Each  YOU chapter organizes and implements a wide variety of service projects
depending on the needs of the group, church and community.

Social
YOUers  believe in celebrating life and enjoy doing it together. The chapter’s
social activities strengthen relationships and provide an opportunity to
practice spiritual principles as they apply to daily life. Nurturing
and supportive relationships develop among the teens and with their adult sponsors.
YOU is a loving place to build friendships and interact with others of like mind.

The teens take on leadership roles with  the support of their adult sponsors.
Our teens experience leading prayer  and meditation, organizing fundraisers,
service projects, lock-ins and  social events. Quarterly Heart Talks provide peer support and teach
respectful communication skills. The teens attend spiritually based
regional and international events sponsored by Unity Worldwide  Ministries.

YOU Sponsor Team
Sponsors guide and encourage spiritual growth and create a
positive atmosphere of acceptance and love in which the YOUers can share and grow.

Venn Academy?

What is Venn Academy?
Venn Academy is a private school for approximately 15 children aged 6 - 14.
The staff includes two full-time teachers, an administrator and parent volunteers.
The school emphasizes individual attention, small classes,
project based learning, and is similar to Waldorf and Montessori schools in philosophy.

Venn Academy is leasing the downstairs at Unity of Portland from
8 am - 5 pm Monday - Friday.
Are there benefits to Unity of Portland?
What are the benefits to Unity of Portland?

The lease payments cover approximately 50% of our building operating expenses.
There is synergies between Venn and Unity programs which allow for the opportunity to
collaborate and share ideas, materials, and lessons. Venn is very compatible with Unity philosophy.

The rental provides a Heart Centered community service that benefits our
neighborhood and raises local awareness of Unity and our message.

The Venn usage of the building allows flexibility of use anytime for the
upstairs sanctuary, chapel, bookstore, and offices. Evening activities and weekend events will not be impacted.

The two parties are quite compatible.
